The work underneath the work.
Positioning. Voice. Identity. Guidelines. The decisions that make every website headline, every ad, every email, every customer interaction recognisably yours — and recognisably not the agency-template clone of your competitor.
Without positioning,
everything else is louder, not clearer.
You can have the fastest site, the tightest Google Ads campaign, the smartest tracking setup — and still lose to a slower competitor with worse numbers. Why? Because they have a reason to exist that customers can articulate in one sentence. You don't.
That's what brand strategy actually is. Not a logo. Not colours. Not a mission statement laminated in reception. It's the work of deciding: who exactly are we for, who are we not for, what do we promise them, and how do we sound when we say it.
Get this right and every channel below it works harder. The website headline writes itself. The ad copy stops sounding like every other ad. The sales conversation gets shorter because customers already know if you're a fit. This is the highest-leverage work in the whole system.
Positioning
Who you serve, who you don't, what makes you specifically different, and the one promise you keep. Written down. Defensible.
Customer personas
Two or three. Real, named, specific. Not "Sarah, 35, lives in a market town" — actual jobs-to-be-done, with the words they use.
Tone of voice
How you sound. Three to five voice attributes, with Do/Don't examples for each. Pasteable into ChatGPT prompts.
Visual identity
Logo, colour system, typography, spacing rules. Built as a system, not a one-off file.
Brand guidelines
One PDF, 40–60 pages, that any future designer, agency or employee can pick up and follow without asking.
Templates & assets
Social post templates, email signature, invoice header, quote document. All editable. All on-brand.
Six weeks. No copy-paste.

Brand isn't a stage. It's the layer underneath all five — the thing that makes the website sound like you, the ads feel like you, the AI bot speak like you.
